ROLEX CHINA SEA RACE 2010 AND COMMODORE’S CUP 2010

The Rolex China Sea Race started in April 1, 2010 at the Victoria Harbor in Hong Kong with 30 boats. It ended at the Grande Island area, which is near the Subic Bay Yacht Club, in April 5, 2010 with 28 boats finishing the race.
Neil Pryde, a New Zealander who has been living in Hong Kong for more than 45 years won this year’s Rolex CSR. He said, "Last year we were the first boat to finish, but on the calculations of the time and handicaps, we didn’t win it. We were first to get here last year, the fastest boat. Two years in a row."
One can see his happiness of finally winning the race this year after failing to win last year’s race. Pryde has been sailing since he was 15 years old. For the Rolex China Sea Race, he had a team of 14 persons in his boat, which he calls Hi Fi. He had joined the race several times before and this was his third time of winning. He was awarded with two Rolex Yacht Master watches. The first watch for the overall win, and the second watch for the smallest number of handicap. He gave one to Kevin Costin who has been managing his races for 13 years.
Normally, the Commodore’s Cup is held in June. However, since there was no regatta after the Rolex China Sea Race, it was moved to an earlier schedule to give the sailing enthusiasts another fun race and also to attract the participants of the Rolex CSR to extend their stay in Subic. The Lighthouse Marina Resort and Subic Bay Yacht Club moved the Commodore’s Cup 2010 to April 6 to 10, 2010. Out of the 28 boats that finished the Rolex China Sea Race, 11 foreign boats stayed to join the Commodore’s Cup. Pryde’s boat, Hi Fi, also won the Commodore’s Cup with a team of 16 persons for this race.
