Sin in a bottle

Posted February 14, 2011

Robert Louis Stevenson once said “Wine is bottled poetry”. To Spanish creative agency Sidecar Publicidad, however, wine is a sin in a bottle, or seven deadly ones, to be exact.

The company recently introduced the Siete Pecados, a collection of Rioja wines whose packaging was inspired by the Seven Deadly Sins. There’s Wrath, Greed, Lust, Envy, Pride, Gluttony and Laziness embodied in each bottle. Each of these intriquing wine bottles was designed as though each sin was, indeed, encapsulated within. Envy comes in a shimmering gold bottle. Lust is a red bottle covered in lace. Gluttony has the image of a curled silver fork in the center, while Wrath features what looks like a tattered white paper with a burnt edge.

No word yet on when these seven sinful wine bottles will hit the market this year and for how much. For now, those who were instantly drawn to these wines should decide which “sin” they’d like to break soon.

Express your love through Knickermail

Posted February 5, 2011

If you want to be creative this Valentine’s Day, ditch the teddy bear-and-red roses combo and send your loved one Knickermail instead. Knickermail is a lingerie mail-order greeting card that arrives in a pink wrapping paper along with a handwritten note and message of your choice.

Ordering it has to be made online, and you may choose the color (red, black or purple) and select from a range of kinky greeting card messages like “Can you read between the lines” or “They say medium is a message”, or you may also write your own message.

Designed by Estonian lingerie designer Kriss Soonik for Knickermail, these knickers are made of hand-sewn silk satin, and are designed “to look lovely on bums of various sizes”. It retails for £29.99.

Lapalma launches futuristic table

Posted January 13, 2011

Despite all the money you can have, you know you can’t buy the moon and the stars for your home, but if you’re willing to settle for something less ambitious, you can capture the northern lights in your furniture. Italian furniture designer Lapalma has teamed up with the Swarovski Elements, the jewelry house’s custom design division, to produce The Floe table , a futuristic trio of oddly-shaped coffee tables illuminated by crystals and LED lights.

Designed by Tomoko Azumi for Lapalma, the tables are made of sheet metal caskets topped with translucent glass. LED lights and Swarovski crystals are integrated within the metals, which, when activated, light bounces off the suspended crystals. There is an added level of interactivity, the designer says: when you touch the light, the light moves and flickers, much like a shadow play.

The result is an Aurora Borealis effect that’s visible on the table top, especially in a dark room. From afar, the table set looks a lot like they have been shipped from planet Krypton. It is, however, unclear whether the tables need to be plugged or not to make the lights work. But who cares? With this coffee table set, you can have part of the cosmos in your very own living room.

Bathe in luxury with the Diamond Bathtub

Posted January 13, 2011

If you think the age of bling has ended due to the recession, you’re wrong.

This Swarovski-encrusted bathtub is proof that bling is back in the luxury business, just as millionaires are starting to open their wallets again. Designed by Lori Gardner, the Diamond Bathtub took three years in the making. This 19th century-style claw foot bathtub is covered with rose pink Swarovski crystals affixed by hand.

But here’s the clincher; according on the designer, there is one real diamond among the crystals attached to the tub, so if you’re in for a long hot bath, you might as well stay there a little longer trying to find the diamond among the crystals. There’s also another surprise when you put a mirror underneath. No word yet on how much this bathtub costs and where it will be sold, but the Diamond Bathtub is currently on display at Fleur de Lys, 369 E. 17th Street in Costa Mesa, CA. For more information, you may contact the designer at www.thediamondbathtub.com.

Jewelry designer makes Swarovski rubber duck

Posted January 5, 2011

Looking for a new way to impress your precious little tot? Why not gift your child with a $1,000 Swarovski-covered rubber duckie?

Created by New York-based jewelry designer Forman Lauren, this blinged-out rubber duck has been encrusted with over 5,000 individually-set Swarovski crystals. It’s not clear as to how this sparkling rubber duck will float, but as the online seller, Etsy, describes it, the duck will make a fun conversation piece for your home - which is their way of saying this duck is not designed to be used during your toddler’s bath time.

And if one bejeweled rubber duck is not enough, you can always add Lauren’s $175-nail brush in your collection, which is covered with 1,000 genuine Swarovski crystals. Just make sure the crystals don’t brush up on your cuticles.
