Own a “pre-loved” yacht

Posted April 14, 2011

Luxury boating company Azimuth-Benetti has just launched a new website that sells pre-owned Azimuth yachts. Preloved-yachts.com claims to provide “the luxury of being able to count on the expertise and reliability of the world’s largest marine player, including when researching used yachts”.

Marketed with the tagline “Either New or from Preloved-Yachts.com”, the website sells online used yachts from the Azimut-Benetti dealer network.

“On the one side, there are indeed special yachts that gave their owners unforgettable moments; on the other, there are new owners who are looking to buy a used or - to use the charming description coined in Australia - a ’preloved’ yacht,” the company said.

By logging on to the website, the prospective buyer may choose the yacht of his dreams; he can even narrow down his choices depending on the price range, the size of the yacht and its age. The buyer can also seek advice from sales experts from the Azimut-Benetti Group and Fraser Yachts, companies that specialize in the management of luxury yachts.

Once bought, the company promises its owners that they can count on the support of an expert for obtaining all necessary information, including booking on-board visits, and organizing trial-runs at sea. At all times, owners will also have at their side a professional, reliable partner for providing assistance at each stage of the purchase: from management of bureaucratic matters to selection of the necessary skipper and crew.

For the first few months, the service will be available only for yachts moored in Italy. But once it’s fully up and running, the site will enable visitors to search for their special preloved yacht throughout Europe and the rest of the world.

Loewe launches remake of classic fragrance

Posted March 8, 2011

Luxury house Loewe recently launched in the Philippines a remake of its very first fragrance - L Loewe.

The Spanish luxury maison, which once served as the supplier of luxury goods to the king of Spain in the early 1900s, first created its first fragrance line, L Loewe, ni 1972. Carrying the brand heritage of one of the world’s oldest luxury houses, L Loewe, with its floral notes, was deemed opulent, not only in branding, but also in terms of composition.

In the years that followed, Loewe's fragrance line expanded to include fragrances for men and women alike. Now, there’s Loewe Pour Homme, Aire Loewe, Esencia Loewe, Gala Loewe, Aura Loewe, Gala de Dia (1996), Agua de Loewe (2000), Esencia Femme (2002), Aire de Verano (Summer 2003) and Aire de Verano Aquamarine (Summer 2004).

Frederic Chehab, Loewe’s Asia-Pacific regional director said that comparing luxury perfumes like Loewe’s to “commercial” perfumes is like comparing a rare wine to a supermarket table wine.

“The more you taste good wines, the more you can tell the good from the bad. It’s the same thing with perfumes. Like in wines, the creation of a luxury perfume is more artisanal. In commercial perfumes, you smell just one layer of fragrance. In a luxury perfume, there is a progression in the experience, and the person who made it intended it to be like that. It’s deliberate,” Chehab said.

He added that the success of Loewe’s fragrances can be credited to the company’s in-house nose for over 20 years - Emilio Valeros, the man behind most of Loewe’s fragrances.

“He doesn’t scrimp on the ingredients. For instance, if he needs to find the rarest or the best quality of rose to create just a bottle of perfume, he’ll do it. And the way he comes up with a fragrance takes time. He doesn’t rush,” he said.

Chehab was in town last March to launch a new woman’s fragrance designed for the Asian market. L de Loewe is actually a reinvention of Loewe’s very first fragrance - L Loewe. The updated fragrance has peony at the heart of the fragrance, layered in with notes of bergamot and tangerine.

This year, expect Loewe to launch limited edition versions of some of its fragrance lines, Chehab said. He hinted that one of its women’s fragrances will come in a special package: a specially designed Loewe leather perfume case.

L Loewe and other Loewe fragrances are available in major department stores nationwide.

It’s raining bling with Pasotti Lux umbrellas

Posted March 8, 2011

Braving the weather has just gotten stylish with Pasotti Ombrelli’s Swarovski umbrellas. The Italian umbrella maker, whose known for its limited edition luxury umbrellas (only 30,000 pieces are handcrafted each year) has just come out with a new line of luxurious umbrellas decorated with Swarovski crystals.

The company partnered with Swarovski Elements to produce the Pasotti Lux, a line of handmade umbrellas made from plush materials and are embellished with Swarovski crystals.

The pieces feature beautifully crafted handles; some are bedecked with Swarovski crystals and other fine materials. The fabric features a double clothing system stretched all over the frame (so you see two different designs inside and out). The crystal embellishments nonetheless, the designs are a sight to behold. A few of the pieces feature vivid floral patterns printed on Italian polyester fabric.

The typical black umbrella also gets “crystallized” with 240 Swarovski crystals sewn on the outside. This handmade women's luxury fashion umbrella usually pairs with the S8 Handle which is embellished with certified Swarovski crystals.

Prices for the Pasotti Lux umbrellas range from $280 to $700. Each can be optionally customized with one’s choice of handles or personalized with a fabric imprint.

If this won’t make you sparkle when it rains, we don’t know what will.

Range Rover presents Evoque concept road bike

Posted March 8, 2011

How much do you love your Range Rover? Enough to buy it a road companion? The makers of Range Rover’s luxury compact SUV, Evoque, thinks so.

At the recent Geneva Motor Show, they introduced the Range Rover Evoque concept road bike - the perfect accessory for Range Rover’s new luxury SUV (due out in September this year).

The Evoque road bike is made from exotic lightweight materials for secure road-racing performance. But the central element is a high modulus carbon fibre monocoque frame, crafted by Karbona using techniques derived from Formula 1.

The oversized carbon fiber handlebar stem and aerospace alloy handle bars were specified to complement the rest of the bicycle, and are engineered to cope with the high torque developed by top-class sports cyclists and ensure safe control of the machine at high speeds.

The steering bearings are integrated into the head of the frame to reduce drag and the steering fork is also made of carbon fibre. Echoing the attention to luxury detailing that is fundamental to all Range Rover products, the drivetrain and braking systems are finished in matching black chrome and the saddle is upholstered in fine leather, with padded grip tape enhanced with silicone gel.

The wheels were specially commissioned for the Evoque project and have a strong visual impact. Formed from aero-profiled carbon fibre, they have a deep section designed to cut through the air quickly while maintaining stability. Secure performance is further supported by the tyre tread, which is constructed from triple-density rubber compound with hard-wearing and high-grip qualities. No word yet on when Range Rover starts production of the Evoque bike.
